FAQ for Washington State
-
It means change happens through direct experience — working with emotion, the body, and relational patterns as they show up live in session — rather than only through discussion after the fact. This blends cognitive insight with somatic and relational work so a pattern shifts on a felt level, not just an understood one.
-
Talk therapy primarily works through discussion and cognitive insight. Experiential therapy adds somatic, embodied, and imaginal work — such as IFS parts work, Brainspotting, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), or guided body-based processing — so change registers below the level of "I understand this now" and into how the body and nervous system actually respond. Many REC SPACE clients arrive having already done years of insight-based work without lasting change.
-
Understanding a pattern intellectually and actually shifting it are two different processes. Most stuck patterns live in the body and nervous system, not just in conscious thought, so REC SPACE works with somatic awareness, IFS parts work, and relational depth alongside insight — not instead of it.
-
REC SPACE works well for high-functioning, insight-rich adults who understand their own psychology intellectually but feel stuck repeating the same patterns anyway — often people who've already tried standard talk therapy and felt something was still missing.

People who are self-aware, successful, and have already done real work on themselves, but still feel a gap between what they understand and how they actually feel or behave day to day — and are looking for something beyond talk alone to close it.
-
Yes. Much of experiential and somatic work is internally guided — body sensation, imagery, focused attention — and doesn't depend on physical proximity. Many Washington clients find it easier to stay grounded and present working from their own familiar space.

I deeply value this work and honor the skill & capacity needed to create a safe and nourishing space for my clients. For this reason, I do not take on very many clients in order to maintain the integrity of our work together.
